50 months in jail for labourer who robbed off-duty Policeman at scissors point

A man who described himself as a labourer, will spend the next 50 months in jail after admitting in Court today that he robbed an off-duty policeman of $240 in cash along with his phone and other items.

21-year-old, Darren Bailey made his first appearance before Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman and opted not to waste the Court’s time.

He immediately entered a guilty plea after the robbery charge was read to him.

The court heard that on the 2nd March at Hinck Street, Georgetown, Bailey armed himself with a pair of scissors and robbed Policeman Mahendra Doodnauth of his LG mobile phone, his wallet and $240 cash.

The suspect was later nabbed by other officers under the clock at the Stabroek Market.

He was found with all of the stolen items in his possession.

After sentencing the young man to 50 months in jail, the Magistrate encouraged him to change his life.
