Contractor charged for fraud over allegedly converting house construction money

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, today, a Contractor was placed on $50,000 bail after he was slapped with two charges of fraudulently converting money to his own use. The money was paid to the man for the construction of a bottom flat apartment.

The Court heard that 33-year-old contractor, Claudius Peters, was entrusted with $250,000 in July 2015 to begin construction work on the bottom flat of the house belonging to Demaly Wilson.

He reportedly converted the cash to his own use but when he was given an additional $288,000 to begin work on the same property in 2016, he again converted the money to his own use.

The Prosecutor had no objections to Bail, since defendant already started the process of returning the sum of cash to the virtual complainant. Bail was set in the sum of $50,000 and the matter will be called again on 24th April.
