At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, an Essequibo man who lived in Lethem, Region 9, found himself before Magistrate Judy Latchman facing a murder charge.

30-year-old Joseph Duncan was remanded to prison after the indictable murder charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea.

The Court heard that on February 12, 2017, the accused and another villager, Chide Glasgow, got into a confrontation after he was taunted over his medical condition.

The accused, according to his Attorney, Jerome Khan, suffers from seizures and was constantly bulled by the now dead man and other villagers.

It was during the latest confrontation, that Glasgow allegedly approached Duncan with a fork and was allegedly taunting him about his condition. The taunts turned into a physical confrontation and Duncan used a knife to stab Glasgow repeatedly to his body.

Glasgow collapsed and died and the accused walked into the Lethem Police station and turned himself over to the Police for the murder.

The case is expected to come up again in the Court on Friday.
