Man charged for attempted robbery tells court he was at seawalls trying to overcome “a domestic”

A 28-year-old man who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning and was slapped with an attempted robbery charge, denied that he was part of any robbery attempt.

The West Ruimveldt resident, David Bernard,  was charged with the January 30, 2017 attempted robbery of Leon Blackman.

The Prosecution’s case is that Bernard and and an accomplice cornered Blackman in the Kingston area and demanded that he hand over his valuables. The two were armed with screwdrivers.

After spotting a police patrol nearby, the man ran away from the two and raised an alarm. The Police responded immediately and arrested Bernand while the other man fingered as the accomplice, escaped.

The suspect told the Court that he was in the area but did not make any robbery attempt on anyone. He said he was at the seawalls, trying to overcome some domestic troubles that he has been facing in life.
