Man remanded to jail over robbery committed while on bail for earlier robbery charge
A man who is well-known to law enforcement made yet another appearance in Court today and was charged for armed robbery. He was immediately remanded.

The Accused, Antonio Marai stood before Magistrate Leron Daly and denied the allegation, which stated that on the 2nd November at Durban Backlands, while being armed with a handgun, he robbed West Matthew of his valuables, including a phone worth $75,000.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail and told the Court that the accused has four pending matters of a similar nature before the Courts.

The Attorney representing the accused told the Court that her client is innocent and claimed that on the day of the alleged robbery, the man was in the Diamond community at his construction job.

After listening to the initial arguments, the Magistrate remanded the man to prison, taking into account that the new charge stemmed from an incident that took place while he was on bail for similar offenses.

He will make his next Court appearance on November 24.
