Plaisance woman charged for using fake U.S dollars to make purchases at Chinese store

A 33-year-old woman from Plaisance who came to the City to do some shopping found herself far away from the shopping district and in front of a City Magistrate after she was charged with possession of counterfeit money and using that counterfeit money to make purchases.

The woman, Samantha DeSouza, appeared in Court this morning and was placed on $75,000 bail after she was charged with knowingly using counterfeit U.S dollars to make purchases at a local Chinese store.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge but the court was told that on March 25, 2017, DeSouza used more than US$1300 that was fake to pay for purchases of clothes that she made at the store.

The Court heard from the Prosecution that the woman knew that the money was fake but still passed it on. She was arrested just after it was determined that the money was counterfeit.

She will make her next court appearance on April 19, 2017.
