Security guard charged and remanded for murder of waitress; Magistrate orders psychiatric evaluation

38-year-old, Odit Thom aka Persaud, made his first appearance at the Fort Wellington Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rhandel Weaver and was remanded to jail. The Magistrate also ordered that the man undergoes a psychiatric evaluation.

A Security Guard, who was recently arrested and questioned about the murder of a Berbice waitress was today charged and remanded to jail for the woman’s murder.

38-year-old, Odit Thom aka Persaud, made his first appearance at the Fort Wellington Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rhandel Weaver and was remanded to jail. The Magistrate also ordered that the man undergoes a psychiatric evaluation.

It is alleged that Thom murdered the young waitress, Marissa Fraser, sometime early Monday morning.

The woman’s body was discovered in a trench with several stab wounds. A scissors was found close to her body.

A post-mortem examination report found that Fraser died from from Asphyxia and drowning.

The accused reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning by the Police. He reportedly told investigators that he became upset when the woman refused his advances.  He will make his next Court appearance in January.
