Strip Club workers charged for human trafficking days after raid
On Friday, two workers attached the Diamond Nightclub and hotel found themselves before the Court facing human trafficking charges.
The charges came one week after the Police raided the Diamond Nightclub and hotel in Werk-en-rust and took over 40 foreign women away and into protective custody.
Appearing in Court were Fiona Hopkinson and Rodwell Dempster. They pleaded not guilty to the charge of trafficking in persons, but were both remanded to jail until January 22nd, 2018.
The Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan presided over the hearing which was held in-camera.
News Source understands that efforts are now being made by the Police to track down and interview the owner of the Diamond nightclub and hotel.
The man has been quoted in the media that he is not involved in human trafficking and as far as he knows, the foreign women found at his premises lived in the hotel while working in the nightclub.  He would not say what jobs they had.
