Taxi driver remanded on robbery and gun possession charges

33-year-old taxi driver, Lester Joseph, was today remanded to prison after he was slapped with a number of gun related and robbery charges.

The West Ruimveldt man, made his first appearance in court before Magistrate, Judy Latchman and denied all of the allegations that have been leveled against him.

The Court heard that on the 2nd September, at King Street , the accused, being in the company of another man, robbed Collin Ackra of One Gold and Diamond Chain worth $950,000.

It was further alleged that on the same day the defendant discharged a loaded firearm in the process of the robbery, and had one .38 Pistol, and 5 live matching rounds in his possession, without being the holder of a firearm license.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail, based on the fact that a gun was used during the robbery and the accused has a pending matter in the Northwest District Court for unlawful wounding.

Upon listening to the facts of the case, the Magistrate remanded the alleged bandit to prison until October 2nd .
