Unlicensed mini-bus conductor charged for causing death by dangerous driving

An unlicensed minibus conductor made his first Court appearance before the Chief Magistrate today and was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Thirty-nine year old, Damion Walcott, stood before the Chief Magistrate and pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was placed on $500,000 bail.

The charge stated that on Christmas Eve, Walcott drove minibus, BLL 3140, in a manner dangerous to the public causing the death of Shahad Scipio.

He was reportedly driving the bus at a fast rate when he collided with the man, dragging him several feet along the roadway. He did not offer any help and drove away from the scene.

Later, he was captured and charged for the offence.

In addition to the causing death charge, Walcott was also charged today for being an unlicensed driver. That separate charge saw him being granted an additional bail of $80,000.

He will make his next court appearance in the new year.
