Woman remanded to jail over attempted murder of her own brother

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today, a single mother appeared before a City Magistrate charged for attempted murder.

The charge was filed against the woman following a violent altercation with her brother during an argument.

She allegedly stabbed the man several times. Thirty-two-year-old, Hazel Gonsalves appeared in Court today and was not required to enter a plea to the attempted murder charge.

The charge stated that on the 11th March at One Mile, Potaro River North West District, with the intent to commit murder, the woman maliciously wounded Keron Gonsalves.

The Police Prosecutor objected to bail based on the fact that the victim is still hospitalised in a serious condition and has to undergo more surgeries.

The Magistrate remanded the woman to jail and the matter will come up again in the month of April.
