Wounded Linden man remanded to prison over marijuana possession

A Linden resident will now spend several weeks behind bars until his case is called again.

27-year-old, Glen McHardy, was today remanded to prison even as he is ailing from a gunshot wound he sustained while being arrested.

The man is facing marijuana possession charges, but his Attorney told the court that the charges are trumped up and being used to reflect attention away from the man being shot by a Policeman during his arrest.

Attorney Glen Hanoman, told the Court that while it is alleged that his client was nabbed with 320 grammes of marijuana at Omai Landing, the Police cannot offer any justifiable reason for shooting the man to his abdomen.

Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore in reply, told the Court that on the day in question, Police saw the accused  acting in a suspicious manner with a back pack.

The Prosecutor claims that when the man was approached by the Police, he drew a cutlass and fired several chops in the direction of the rank. He said that was the reason behind the Police officer’s decision to shoot the man as a means of defending and protecting himself.

The accused was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on July 18th at the Mahdia Magistrate Court.
