Guyanese songbird and beauty queen, Poonam Singh, sang her way to the first runner up spot of the Miss Global International Pageant in the Dominican Republic on Saturday evening. The pageant was won by Miss Brazil.
Poonam also captured the winner’s prize for Best Personality, Best National Costume and Best Evening gown. Additionally, she placed in the Top 3 for the talent competition and captured the first up prize for Miss Maja of the World.
An ecstatic Poonam Singh, in a Facebook video post, said she was more than excited to have done Guyana proud. She reminded that the Miss Global International pageant was her first outing on the international pageant stage and now she has the medals to show that she has done well.
In thanking the Miss Global Guyana Committee and other sponsors, Poonam said the experience was worth it and “Guyana, I am so glad that I am bringing this home to you. I am bringing all of these medals home to you, and I just want to say thank you for your support. You see when you support your people what happens?”
She said she still cannot believe that she was able to snag the first runner up spot.
The Miss Guyana Global Queen was praised by the pageant franchise holders, Melica and Hasim Ali. They said she did a phenomenal job and they are happy with the support that they were able to get from Guyanese over the past months. The franchise holders said they expect to see a whole lot more to come from Poonam Singh.
Poonam Singh shot to local stardom a few years ago when she qualified as a finalist of the GTT Song Competition. Although she did not win that singing competition, she continued to pursue her dreams in the singing arena and released a number of new songs earlier this year to coincide with Guyana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
