A 20 – year – old man was late Tuesday afternoon charged for the robbery/murder of a Mechanic in his Madewini home. The incident took place last Thursday.

Rayon Jones, who was previously charged but never convicted for another robbery related charge, was not required to plea when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The Court heard that he murdered Purnanadan Baljit AKA Andrew during a burglary at his home on the night of June 9.

He was represented by Attorney Latchmie Rahamat who asked that the preliminary inquiry be done via a paper committal. Rahamat said she hopes that such a move will save judicial time and lend to an expedited approach for a High Court trial.

Jones was remanded until July 5.

His alleged victim was discovered on his bed in a pool of blood by his father.

The deceased lived in a one flat home with two bedrooms along with his parents.

They went to bed around 21:00 on the night in question but were waken by screams about 45 minutes later.

They rushed to Andrew’s room but it was locked from the inside.

His father later made his way into the room by jumping through an open window only to find his son lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds about his body.

A knife was recovered on the window ceiling.

The murder accused resides in Bartica and appeared in Court back in February 2015 where he was accused of stealing a wooden boat, an outboard engine and a tank filled with gas all amounting to a total value of $1,340,000.

At the time he was allegedly attempting to escape during a failed robbery in Bartica.
