21-year-old bandit shot by police during Grove robbery

The young man who has been identified as Devon Forde, and his accomplice had just robbed a Grove resident after invading her home around 3 o' clock Sunday morning, when they were cornered by Police officers who had responded to a neighbour's emergency call.

A 21-year-old man from Stevedore Housing Scheme in Georgetown is nursing gunshot wounds after he was shot by police in an early morning stand off in the Grove community on the East Bank of Demerara.

The young man who has been identified as Devon Forde, and his accomplice had just robbed a Grove resident after invading her home around 3 o’ clock Sunday morning, when they were cornered by Police officers who had responded to a neighbour’s emergency call.

According to a police report, 50-year-old Grove resident, Cheryl Embrack, was entering her home when she was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The men took the woman into her house and took away a stereo set and a cell phone.

According to the Police statement, “while the robbery was in progress neighbouring residents informed the police who responded and encountered the perpetrators as they were leaving the scene. The police came under fire and returned fire during which one of the men was shot and injured and an unlicensed .32 pistol with 10 matching rounds was recovered.”

While the 21-year-old Devon Forde was shot and eventually arrested, his accomplice managed to escape. The injured bandit is in a city hospital.

Investigations are in progress.
