22 years in jail for man who killed wife by submerging her head in bucket of water

Fours years after a woman was found dead in bucket of water, her reputed husband was today sentenced to 22 years behind bars after a 12 member mixed Jury found him guilty of the offence of manslaughter.

In a calm manner, the convict, Vindira Siriram Persaud strolled into the Courtroom of Justice James Bovell-Drakes, and maintained his innocence as the sentence was handed down.

The Prosecution’s case was that between June 9th and 10th, 2014 at Friendship, he unlawfully killed his wife, Shelly-Ann Persaud.

While handing down the sentence, the Judge noted that he has considered the amount of time the man would have already spent behind bars since being charged and the report too that he was well behaved.

In the same breath, Justice Bovell-James offered a stern word of advice by telling the convict that h should use his time in jail to change his conduct.

The woman, Shelly-Ann Persaud, was found dead in a bucket of water.  The man had originally claimed that the woman had committed suicide.

However, it was found that the woman was also badly beaten before being submerged into the bucket of water.  After the sentence was handed down, the convict calmly left the Courtroom as he was handed back over to prison authorities.
