A 29-year-old dental technician from the West Coast of Demerara is in custody after he brutally stabbed his 23-year-old girlfriend to death at the woman’s West Coast home during an argument on Sunday.

Dead is Rajkumarrie Persaud from Hague on the West Coast of Demerara. Her assailant has been identified as a dental technician who works at Peter’s Hall on the East Bank of Demerara. After brutally stabbing the woman, the man reportedly ran to his employer’s house but was later turned over to Police.

The woman was pronounced dead at the West Demerara Hospital. She was stabbed multiple times to her body.

According to reports, the two were involved in a heated argument after the man accused the woman of being unfaithful to him. The argument escalated and the woman was stabbed and left to die.

A relative of the woman rushed her to the hospital where she died.

The issue of domestic violence remains a big one in Guyana and there are calls for tougher laws and penalties to tackle the scourge.
