2700 lbs Jamaican weed, 10 lbs cocaine found in Diamond homes

In a Caricom Day operation in the Golden Grove and Diamond areas on the East Bank of Demerara, the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit found 2700 pounds of Jamaican marijuana at one home and 10 pounds of cocaine and $1 Million at another home in the same area.

One person was taken into custody in connection with the marijuana bust and another person was taken into custody in connection with the cocaine bust. CANU Investigators believe that a number of other persons may be involved in the drug operation.

The investigation is ongoing. This latest drug bust came on the same day that the Police Narcotics Branch found over 36 pounds of cocaine stashed in ceramic ornaments on an Amerijet cargo flight that was preparing to leave the Cheddi Jagan airport.

Two persons are in custody for that case. Last Friday, two foreign nationals were busted at the Cheddi Jagan airport attempting to ferry cocaine out of the country on two separate flights.

The major busts in three days come just days after the US Government announced that it was setting up a DEA office in Guyana that would be providing intelligence to the local drug enforcement bodies.
