Police in Matthews Ridge, North West District are investigating the murder of a 65-year-old villager who was stabbed to death on Wednesday during an early morning rum shop fight.
Dead is Peter James. According to a police report, the incident took place just after 1 o’ clock on Wednesday morning as James and other men were in a bar in the area.
James and one of the men reportedly got into a heated argument that quickly escalated into the fight and during the fight, the 65-year-old man was stabbed repeatedly to his body.
The assailant has since been arrested and is expected to be charged within the coming days. Over the past week, there have been at least 4 other murders linked to bar fights in different parts of the country.
Guyana has recorded over 115 murders for this year.
