Ammunition intercepted at Camp Street Jail

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday evening announced that prison authorities have been able to foil an attempt to smuggle several rounds of ammunition into the Georgetown prison.

Details of the attempt were not provided but the Ministry said this was not the first time that such attempts were made and uncovered by alert prison officers.

The Ministry also said it is aware of reports that a firearm or components of a firearm may have been smuggled into the prison and it is reassuring the general public that no effort will be spared to uncover and to find any illegal firearm or components at any prison location.

Just over a week ago, a young man was arrested after ammunition were  found in a pair of shoes he had taken to the prison for a relative who is behind bars. He told investigators he was unaware of what was hidden in the pair of shoes.
