Another Guyanese woman held with cocaine in stomach and vagina, this time at JFK

A Guyanese woman is sitting behind bars after she was held at New York’s JFK Airport with a quantity of cocaine stashed in a package in her vagina and several cocaine pellets in her stomach.

According to US Border Security, the Guyanese woman, Alicia Coppin, arrived on September 11 aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight from Guyana.

She was selected for examination by Customs and Border agents at the airport but a search of her baggage did not turn up anything. However, the agents noticed a bulge in the woman’s pelvic area and upon questioning, she admitted that she had inserted an object into her “body cavity”.

An x-tray was done and it revealed the presence of foreign bodies inside her abdomen area and pelvis.

She was taken to a medical facility at the airport, where a package was removed from her body cavity and its contents tested positive for cocaine.

She also excreted a number of cocaine filled pellets. Up to the filing of the charges, she was still being detained at the medical facility as it was expected she would have been passing out more pellets.

She remains in custody and now faces drug trafficking and other charges.

Two days before Coppin’s arrest at JFK, another Guyanese woman was held in Guyana at the Cheddi Jagan Airport with cocaine stashed in her vagina also.

She too had cocaine pellets in her stomach.  She has since pleaded guilty to the charges in a Guyana Court and has been slapped with a four year jail sentence.
