Bees force classes to end at Stella Maris

Bees force classes to end at Stella Maris

A mid-morning attack of Africanized bees brought classes to an early end at the Stella Maris Primary School in Woolford Avenue, Georgetown. The school sent out an alert to parents asking them to uplift their children after a decision was made to end classes for the day.

Headteacher Ms. Doreen Singh told News Source that there was gardening work being done in the nearby St. Joseph’s High School and that may have interred with a bee hive. She said a swarm of bees moved over to the Primary School compound. Two teachers, a vendor and a security guard were attacked. The security guard received the brunt of the attack by the bees.

Ms. Singh said she contacted the Education department and a decision was made to end classes for the day. Parents were contacted by phone and text blasts. Several parents were seen hurrying to the school to pick up their children this midday.

A pest control company was called in to deal with the buzzing situation at the primary school.
