Better Hope man breaks down in tears after charged for son’s murder

Unable to hold back tears, a 40-year-old East Coast Demerara man appeared before the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court today, charged for the murder of his 18-year-old son, Azeem Khan.

Better Hope resident, Omar Khan, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge, but tears flowed from his eyes as the charge was read to him.

He is accused of murdering his son by lashing him across the head with a piece of wood.  The two were reportedly involved in an argument, when the older Khan grabbed the piece of wood and lashed the son to the head.

The father was remanded to prison.

The young man was rushed to the hospital after falling unconscious from the hit. Doctors were initially told that he fell from a ladder at the family’s home.

But it was a post-mortem examination that forced the Police to launch a murder probe. That examination found that the youth died from hemorrhage in the head, which was caused by blunt trauma.

The father was immediately arrested and admitted to hitting the son across the head.  The murder charge was then laid against him.  He will  appear again in court on June 28, 2017.
