Police investigators have moved into the Aramau Backdam in the Cuyuni River in Region 7, to investigate the deaths of two Brazillian men.

The decomposed bodies of the two men were found on Sunday in a swamp in the backdam area.

According to a Police statement, the two men have been identified as 45-year-old Jose Carlos Barbosa Araujo, and 37-year-old Adonias Ferreira.

The cause of death for the two men has not been determined but investigators suspect foul play. The bodies have been transferred to the mortuary of the Bartica hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The Cuyuni river area is known for its gold and diamond mining. Many small miners have been operating illegal mining sites in the area and Brazillian nationals would travel across and carry out their own illegal mining.
