BREAKING: Three suspected “trunkers” shot dead on seawalls

Three suspected bandits believed to be trunkers were shot dead this afternoon along the seawalls road behind the GNS Ground.

Persons working nearby said they heard multiple gunshots and when the shots ended, the bodies of the three men were sprawled on the roadway with Police ranks nearby.

A senior Detective at the scene said the men were trunkers. He did not offer anymore detail about the incident.

It is believed that the men may have been traced by Police after being observed for a while. There are reports that they opened fire on the Police.

Two women who rushed down to the scene after seeing reports online about the shooting incident broke down in screams and tears as they claimed that one of the men was a relative.

They identified him as Dexroy Cordis of Grove, East Bank Demerara. The identities of the two other men are still to be revealed.

After more than two hours of combing the crime scene, the bodies of the men were taken away. A black Toyota Ist motorcar bearing registration number PTT 9034 was also searched and eventually removed from the scene by Police.

The men were traveling in the car when they were cornered and shot dead in an alleged shoot-out with the Police. The car bore no bullet holes.

Bloodstains dried up on the roadway as investigators left the scene under the scorching afternoon sun. The Guyana Police Force is still to release an official statement.

An investigation is underway.
