Senior Police Officials have this evening confirmed the capture of Camp Street Prison escapee Stafrei Alexander.

The man was arrested in Corentyne, Berbice, where it is believed he may have been hiding out for weeks.

Alexander was one of the four remaining prisoners who escaped from the Camp Street jail three weeks ago.

In addition to the other three prisoners from the Camp St. Jail still being on the run, there are also four prisoners who escaped from Lusignan Prison earlier this week, who continue to evade law enforcement.

Acting Police Commissioner David Ramnarine said based on information received from members of the public, a special operation was launched in the Berbice area with support from Police Headquarters.

The operation led to the re-capture of Alexander aback of the village of Hampshire in the Corentyne area.

At the time of his arrest, Alexander had an existing wound and is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed medical institution.

It is believed he sustained the wound during a previous confrontation with the Joint Services.
