CANU in large marijuana bust on Sheriff Street

Early this morning, members of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit found close to one hundred and sixty pounds of compressed marijuana bundled up in large plastic wrapped packages in a car on Sheriff Street in Georgetown.

News Source understands that the car, bearing license plate number PKK-1609, came from New Amsterdam, Berbice, with the large bales of marijuana in the backseat and trunk.

CANU had earlier been tracking the vehicle’s movements around the city. The driver parked the car just outside Royal Castle and bolted from the scene before the lawmen arrived there.

But when they did, and carried out searches, the large packages were discovered and tested at the scene.

Its unclear how the driver was able to make it past Police road blocks in Berbice with the large noticeable packages.

CANU agents intend to continue their probe  today in their efforts to track down the driver of the car, who has been identified as Anthony Carmichael from the same Berbice area.
