Chinese nationals deported for a third time after third illegal entry attempt

Eight Chinese Nationals, ages 27-40, who allegedly entered Guyana illegally for the third time from Suriname, found themselves charged and fined yet again for entering the country illegally.

The eight defendants appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan and all entered a plea of guilty through an interpreter.

The charges stated that on the 1st September, in Georgetown, they attempted to use a permit without it being issued by the relevant authority.

Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore told the court that on the 22nd August, the defendants came to Guyana via the ‘Back Track ‘ at Springlands.

They boarded a bus, and were stopped by the Police and it was then that it was discovered that they entered Guyana illegally.

They were charged, placed before the Courts and fined $20,000 each and ordered deported.

On their return to Suriname, they applied for tourist visas and returned to Guyana, through the Suriname-Guyana Ferry Service.

But after it was found that they were on a deportation list, which stands for a year, they were deported again.

But just weeks later, the group returned to Guyana on the 1st September.

Acting on information, the Police visited the Sleepin Hotel, where the eight Chinese nationals were arrested and charged yet again for the same offence of entering the country illegally. This time they claimed that a man in Suriname provided an immigration stamp for their passports.

In a statement, the Attorney for the group  told the Court that his Clients are guilty of the offence, but only because they were not told that the deportation order prevents them from reentering the country for one year.

The eight Chinese nationals were fined $70,000 each and ordered deported once again.
