Consumers being warned against buying products in unlabelled containers

The Government Analyst – Food and Drug Department is advising the general public against purchasing unlabelled items of processed foods, such as flour, milk,  sauces, spices and beverages.

The department is reminding consumers also that The sale of unlabelled processed foods is in contravention to the Laws of Guyana.

Manufacturers and distributors are being urged to stop the sale of unlabelled items of processed foods since there is a health risk.

The department has found that unlabelled foods are in most cases manufactured and / or packaged under insanitary conditions by unlicensed manufacturers and may also have been subjected to mixing with substandard and or expired foods.

The department says Consumers are taking a risk when purchasing unlabelled foods that is void of information.

The food and drug analyst department intends to begin a seizing exercise to rid the market of unlabelled containers of processed foods.
