Contracts signed for rehabilitation of seven Police Stations

Contracts signed for rehabilitation of seven Police Stations

Contracts totaling $150 million were signed on Monday, to begin the commencement of construction and rehabilitation works on seven police stations across the country.

Among the police stations to benefit from the project under component (2) of the Citizen Security Strengthening Programme are interior and hinterland facilities.

The stations to be rehablitated are the Issano, Port Kaituma, Mabaruma, Ishalton, Annai, Suddie and Aruora Police Stations.

A separate contract to the tune of $16.5 million was signed for remedial work for the electrical system at the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory.

Five stations are in the advanced stage of the procurement process.

Turning his attention to the Forensic Laboratory, Henry said apart from the installation of new electrical cables, there are also plans to improve the air quality system and security system at Forensic Laboratory.

Another US$500,000 has been earmarked to purchase equipment for the lab, which will result in the strengthening investigative capacity of the Guyana Police Force.

Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan spoke briefly at the signing and said the government is also focused on repairing and rebuilding prison facilities across the country.
