Corentyne man slashes wife to death then takes own life after accusing woman of infidelity

Police in the Corentyne region are probing yet another murder-suicide case.

Twenty nine year old, Subrina Lakhan was slashed to death by her husband yesterday at her Corentyne home and the man then turned on himself and took his own life.

The dead man has been identified as 42-year-old labourer, Ramesh Ramdeen.

According to investigators, the man, who was in the habit of threatening his wife, accused her of having other men in their relationship and demanded that she leaves his house. The woman said she has no plans to leave.

The two got into a heated argument and it is alleged that the husband grabbed a knife and repeatedly slashed the wife to the neck, leaving her bloodied body behind. He then turned the knife on himself and took his own life.

Neighbours rushed over where they found the two bodies and called in the police. They told investigators that the man was a “heavy drinker” and was seen earlier the same day imbibing and might have been drunk at the time of the murder-suicide.

The matter remains under probe.
