Customer killed as gunmen attack Guyhoc store

A customer at the Fuzzy’s Grocery and General Store was shot dead on Monday night during a robbery as gunmen invaded the business place in Guyhoc Park, Georgetown. One of the suspected bandits was also shot and is in custody.

The dead man has been identified as 36-year-old Heron Dennis of Guyhoc Park. Reports indicate that he had just entered the store when three armed gunmen rushed in just after and demanded money from the business place. Persons in the area said they heard gunshots and saw a number of men hurrying away from the scene just after.

The Police in a report on Monday night said one of the suspects was injured at the scene and is in custody. According to the police, during the robbery, customers retaliated and began throwing missiles at the perpetrators, “whereupon the armed man began discharging rounds indiscriminately”. Customer Heron Dennis was fatally shot to his neck and one of the suspected bandits who was later identified as Dwayne Simon was shot and injured to his back and right foot.

Dwayne Simon is a patient under guard at the GPHC. His accomplices managed to escape.

Relatives of the dead man broke down in tears as they rushed to the scene and saw his lifeless body sprawled on the floor of the store. They said he lived by himself in the same Guyhoc area. Police investigators arrived on the scene moments after the murder and robbery and questioned a number of persons who were in the store at the time and witnessed the incident.

The Guyhoc incident marked the 4th robbery incident in the space of 24 hours in the Georgetown area. Early on Monday morning, gunmen attacked and robbed a dental clinic in Queenstown. On Monday afternoon, there was another robbery in the city. The Akbar Auto Sales and Furniture Store came under attack as two bandits pounced on staff members and made off with $3 Million.

Later on Monday afternoon, the Rubis gas station on Vlissengen Road came under attack after gunmen also invaded the business place and made off with just over $1 Million.

Police investigators believe it may be the same gang that is responsible for the four incidents.
