Drama unfolds in Linden as Town Clerk is sent on leave

Drama unfolded at the Linden Town Council on Thursday as the Mayor Carwyn Holland, issued a letter to the Town Clerk, Janella Bown, sending her on leave pending an inquiry into allegations of misconduct.

Bowen locked herself in her office just after receiving the letter and the Mayor called in the Police after she was noticed packing up several documents that belonged to the Council.

The Town Clerk said she wanted to speak to her Attorney before leaving office. But when the Police arrived, she was forced to hand over all documents and leave the office.

Bowen believes the move was unfair and illegal. She said she is unaware that the Mayor could send her on leave.

But Mayor Carwyn Holland said his move is covered by the law and he ensured he consulted with Attorneys and Ministry of Communities Officials before giving the Town Clerk the letter, sending her on leave.

The current Council and the previous Council had both written to the Ministry of Communities seeking the removal of Bowen. She has been accused of not implementing Council decisions and making decisions on her own with Council projects without consultation.

She has been adamant that she has been following the law and exercising the powers of the Town Clerk. The Council believes a full audit should be done into the many claims of misconduct against the Town Clerk.
