Drunk Deputy Superintendent held for fatal accident

A Deputy Superintendent of Police, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, has found himself in hot water after he was involved in an accident that left a pedal cyclist dead.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force did not release the name of the Officer, but indicated that the accident took place last evening on the Boerasirie Bridge, on the West Coast of Demerara.

The dead man has been identified as 64-year-old Conrad Alleyne of Hague, West Coast Demerara.

He was reportedly riding across the bridge when he was hit down by the Police Officer, who was behind the wheels of motor car PTT 992.

The Policeman claims that he was driving when he suddenly felt an impact and on investigation, he saw the pedal cyclist lying on the bridge with injuries about his body.

The man was rushed in a semi-conscious state to the Leonora Hospital, but died as he was being transferred to the Georgetown Hospital.

A breathalyzer test conducted on the Policeman found that he was above the legal limit for alcohol in his system.

The matter is being investigated.
