Off duty airport worker found dead in reservoir at the airport

Police investigators and authorities at the Cheddi Jagan Airport are probing the death of a 26 year old airport maintenance engineer. The man’s lifeless body was found on Sunday in a reservoir at the airport. It is believed that he drowned.

He has been identified as Chris Jacob of Haruni village, Linden Soesdyke Highway.

Reports reaching News Source state that on Saturday night the young man got into confrontation with a female airport employee during a social event at the airport to celebrate the airport’s security fifth anniversary. Sources explained that he had been drinking alcohol and grabbed at the young woman during the event.

The young lady reportedly retaliated by slapping the young man and the two got involved in a profanity laced verbal confrontation.  Police were eventually called in, but by the time they got to the scene, the young man had reportedly ran off to hide from the police. It was not until his relatives called the airport on Sunday seeking his whereabouts that it was realised that he was missing.

A search began all across the airport and his body was found in the afternoon in the reservoir. Investigators believe he may have slipped into the water hold during his bid to hide after the row with the other airport employee.

An investigation is underway and several staff members at the airport have been asked to provide statements to the police investigators.
