East Coast man commits suicide after setting house ablaze

A 55-year-old man from Industry on the East Coast Demerara killed himself on Saturday after burning down his house which has left family members homeless.

The man has been identified as  Deoshan Naryan who lived at 85 Fourth Street, Industry, East Coast Demerara.

He reportedly set fire to the house just before drinking a pesticide and rat poison.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he later succumbed. One of the occupants of the house, Marlon Parks told News Source his step father who was abusive towards his mother had threatened to kill her and burn down the house.

He added that on Friday evening the couple had a fight and he stabbed the woman twice after which he fled the home.

He believes his step father’s action was premeditated.

Meanwhile the occupant of the lower flat of the house, Nalini Chintaman said she lost everything in the fire and was at work when she got the call that her home was on fire.

Three persons occupied the lower flat Nalini Chitaman, her husband and daughter. The upper flat  was occupied by four  persons.
