Just two hours before sunrise on Friday morning two gunmen opened fire on a youth in Albouystown, Georgetown, killing him on the spot.
The dead man has been identified as 24-year-old Senassie Lewis of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
According to reports reaching News Source, Lewis was liming in the vicinity of the Ghetto Flex night spot in Albouystown with some other friends around 3:00am when the two gunmen pulled up in a car and opened fire.
He was hit several times about the body while others scampered for cover.
Lewis’ friends also sustained injuries. Lewis was clearly the target although the motive for the killing is unknown.
He was left lying on the roadway for almost two hours as police arrived on the scene minutes later and commenced their investigations.
By this time, the gunmen had already escaped.
This shooting occurs on day three of the government announced one month gun amnesty programme which is aimed at removing illegal firearms and ammunition from the country’s streets.
Already the police have reported receiving a large quantity of ammunition and several firearms. The police recently conducted a programme in the Albouystown community which was aimed at building confidence among residence while also curbing the high incidents of crime.Guyana has recorded over 100 murders for the year so far.
