Elderly American man changes plea to Not Guilty in cocaine possession case

After just one night in a local prison, the 65-year-old American man, who on Wednesday pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and was awaiting sentencing, has now decided to change his plea.  He wants the case to go to trial.

When Alan Murdoch of Florida appeared in Court on Thursday for his sentencing, he told the Magistrate that he now wants to enter a not guilty plea.

The Magistrate granted his request but remanded him to prison until October 25, 2017.  When he returns on that date, his trial will begin.

He was facing the possibility of a four year jail sentence had he continued with his guilty plea.

Murdoch was arrested on the 30th September in Pike Street Kitty during a raid by the Police on a drug yard.

He was allegedly nabbed with under an ounce of cocaine in a glue bottle.  The man has reportedly been living in Guyana for a number of years
