Equipment for new Forensic Lab goes missing

The new forensic laboratory which will assist the work of the Guyana Police Force has not opened its doors just yet and is still to go into operation but it appears as though one of its first cases will be about the lab itself.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Wednesday that the Guyana Police Force has launched a probe into the disappearance of several pieces of equipment from a storage bond of the Citizens Security Programme at Ogle.

The pieces of  equipment were bought for the new forensic laboratory and were discovered missing on Saturday.

According to a release from the Ministry, “a quantity of IT equipment, including computers and related equipment were discovered missing from a storage area at the Citizen Security Programme Office located at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.”

Just last week, the Ministry announced the awarding of contracts to a number of local companies for the supply of equipment. The new forensic lab which is located in the University of Guyana compound should go into operation in 2014.
