The Guyana Police Force has taken the driver of a motor lorry into custody following an early morning road accident along the East Coast of Demerara which resulted in the death of 73-year-old cattle farmer, Moodnie Persaud.
The incident occurred around 06:30 this morning on the Le Ressouvenir Public Road, ECD, as the woman was in the process of crossing her cattle from south to north when she came in contact with the tray of the lorry which was proceeding west along the southern side of the road.
As a result of the impact, the woman fell and was crushed by the rear left wheel of the vehicle.
A breathalyser test was administered and the 30-year-old driver of East La Penitence was not found to have any alcohol on his breath.
An investigation in progress.
