Four to face charges over shooting of GRA Enforcement Officers during smuggling crackdown

The incident took place last Thursday as the Enforcement Officers were moving in on a property to search for smuggled items following a discovery in a vessel and a vehicle. 

Four to face charges over shooting of GRA Enforcement Officers during smuggling crackdown

The Guyana Revenue Authority has announced that with the assistance of the Guyana Police Force, it has apprehended four (4) persons in connection with the shooting of GRA’s Law Enforcement and Investigation (LEID) Officers at Beehive, East Coast Demerara.

The incident took place last Thursday as the Enforcement Officers were moving in on a property to search for smuggled items following a discovery in a vessel and a vehicle.

The officers came under fire from a bus that pulled up outside the property as they were about to search. Two of the officers were hit even as they returned fire. The two injured officers were taken to a private hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

Those arrested for the shooting have been identified as Ravindra Ramdeo of Lot 217 Section D Non Pariel, ECD, Stephon Motielal and Trevor Motielal of Lot 30 Green Field Bee Hive, ECD and Andrew Motielal of Lot 11 – 12 Helena, Mahaica. The GRA today released the photographs for three of the four suspects.

The four men are expected to appear in Court shortly to answer to a number of charges related to smuggling and the shooting incident.
