GDF Officer charged with causing death of colleague by dangerous driving

Close to one year after Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant  Ronald Gonsalves lost his life in a motor car accident on Mandela Avenue, his colleague who was the driver at the car has been charged with causing his death by dangerous driving.

Army Officer, Lieutenant Anthony Eastman who was the driver of the motor car in November last year when he lost control of it and it slammed into a power pole, was on Monday charged in connection with Gonsalves’ death.

The two and another officer were on their way to a meeting at GDF Headquarters when the tragedy occurred. Gonsalves reportedly died on the spot while the other two officers were rushed to a city hospital where they nursed injuries for several days.

Eastman pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $200,000. He will make his next court appearance on October 21, 2014.
