The People’s Progressive Party on Monday said it is pleased with the response of its supporters with regards to its call for maximum mobilization for the Local Government Elections to be held on Friday.

The opposition party has been on the ground over the last week, holding community meetings across the country ahead of the historic 2016 local government elections.

These elections were last held in Guyana back in 1994. But, the PPP said it is still largely dissatisfied with the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM’s) public education campaign.

PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee welcomed GECOM’s call for citizens to utilize their Identification Cards to vote on Friday, despite provisions made for instances where voters may not have their ID cards.

“They should have done that ever since and keep doing it every day until the elections. Their pubic relations is piss poor and they are not performing based on the budget they have at their disposal,” Rohee added. He said a large number of voters still don’t know where they need to go and vote and what the elections were are about.

“The PPP is doing our part because we realize that we cant depend on GECOM to do anything for us,” the General Secretary lamented. He also told reporters that the mood of party supporters is high and they were full of excitement and ready to elect PPP candidates to office.

“The supporters of PPP openly expressed their demand that they want their country back with PPP in office and people see their participation in this election as a harbinger for next general elections,” he added.

According to Mr. Rohee, the PPP will utilize this LGE to demonstrate its displeasure and disgust with what he said was bad administrative and anti working class policies and measures of the David Granger led – administration

“Guyanese anxiously look forward to fresh general elections to reverse the results at the last elections.”
