As auditors intensify their investigations at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC),  the institution’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Khan has been asked to proceed on 48 days leave.

Khan’s removal from the daily operations of the hospital was confirmed by Public Health Minister Dr. George Norton.

Dr. Norton said Khan was sent on the involuntary leave following advice from an auditor.

The Minister did not disclosed any wrongdoing on Khan’s behalf but said it is part of a procedure that he be sent on leave.

This was not the first time that the CEO was sent on leave during an audit at the hospital. He was asked to proceed on leave last year during another probe by the former government but he returned to his job after challenging the way he was sent on leave.

There have however been calls for Khan to be replaced as the Hospital’s Chief Executive. He has held the post for a number of years.  (GC photo)
