Gravity takes fine dining to new heights

Perched on the top floor of the six-storey United Centre at the corner of Camp and Regent Streets in Georgetown, the new Gravity Lounge is rolling out fine dining in a whole new way to the Guyanese public and the managers are convinced they have put together the right ingredients for an extraordinary dining and sip and chat experience.

The multi-million dollar facility features a modern contemporary fine dining Restaurant that caters for lunch and dinner, two outdoor dining decks, three bars and an elevated VIP area that offers a panoramic view of Georgetown.

According to General Manager, Navin Singh, “the investment is evidence of an unwavering belief in the Guyanese economy and defines the potential of our growing tourism and hospitality sector”. DSC04805

Gravity is hoping to become that ultimate stop for tourists and persons looking for a classy dining experience. The menu serves up several European, American, Latin American, Caribbean and Guyanese dishes. Singh explained that they wanted to offer a different touch to the dishes and the company went out of its way to recruit the services of a Panamanian Chef  who will train a team of local chefs in preparing many of the dishes.

“Everything will be done to perfection. The Chef is a perfectionist and when he serves up a plate, it’s going to be more than just a plate of food. He brings colour, creativity and that unique taste to every plate and that’s important for us”, Singh said.

The Gravity Lounge has already created employment for over 45 persons and the company is still in the process of hiring. The managers intend to pay keen attention to staff training and development. Over a number of weeks, staff members were exposed to training from the Guyana Tourism Authority and by the United Centre management team in customer service and relations.

It could seat over 400 persons in the indoor and outdoor dining areas with additional seating in the bar areas and in the overhead VIP sky box. the VIP area is geared for business meetings and small conferences and has facilities to accommodate electronic and internet based presentations. It could also be reserved for special occasions including engagements and small parties. Forty persons could be seated in the VIP sky box.

Operations Manager at the United Centre, Clairmont Cummings who is the brainchild behind the Gravity Lounge is excited about his latest venture. For him, the opening completes most of his hard work and commitment to the business over the past few years.

Cummings explained that Gravity wants to pride itself in offering that unique ambiance that will not be matched anywhere else. He said his travels around the world provided him with the perfect opportunity to combine his vision and what is needed in the Guyana market, a place with a difference that offers great service and food and drinks.

The new Lounge has hired some of the leading bartenders in Guyana, and in preparation for the opening, they have been busy perfecting their mixes and cocktails. The bars will offer a wide variety in fine wines, liquors and beers.

One of the highlights in the bar area will be the variety of the beers being offered. The General Manager said “we will be offering thirty different beers, so you can actually taste a different beer every day from a different country”. An expansion in that area could also be on the horizon.DSC04801
