GTT customers now able to access specific news and social media sites without depletion of data

Local mobile service provider, GTT, has announced the launch of its “Free Basic 4G Services”.

According to the company, the initiative will give customers free 4G access to information and knowledge through more than 20 local and international sites including newssourcegy.com.

To access the free sites, customers would just need a data capable phone (feature or smartphone) and start browsing. An active data plan is not necessary.

“As 4G is now available in Guyana, GTT wants to ensure that everyone can freely benefit from this new technology by being able to use the web for education, information, check the weather and to access the information of the Government of Guyana. That’s part of our commitment of doing more for developing Guyana”, said Gert Post, Chief Commercial Officer of GTT.

The Government of Guyana has welcomed the move and according to Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Telecommunications, Derrick Cummings, “the free websites offered by GTT will help Guyanese who are not yet connected to the Internet to discover the value of connectivity and expand their access to knowledge and growth. This is part of our commitment to bridging the digital divide and the reason why the Government of Guyana supports it wholeheartedly”.

And in addition to the Free Basic 4G services, GTT also announced that as of today the use of social media sites, WhatsApp and Facebook,, will be free and unmetered with all of the company’s data plans.

“This means that the use of the most popular social media apps in Guyana is free. Even when the data balance is depleted GTT customers can continue to use WhatsApp and Facebook until their data plan expires”, the company said.

“To make everybody aware of the benefits of using social media on the go and in order to be on top of what’s going on in your social network, GTT will give 48 hours of free Facebook access to all its customers who top up $500 or more as it continues to Do More for its customers”, the statement added.

The new initiative unveiled by the company will see persons being able to save most of their purchased data. The company is expected to go on an advertising and promotional blitz to announcement the free services.
