Guyana confers Order of Roraima on Brazilian Foreign Minister

Brazil’s Minister of External Affairs, Mauro Vieira, has been conferred with Guyana’s second highest national award, The Order of Roraima.

At a simple ceremony at the President’s Office, the Brazilian Minister received the award from President David Granger for his long and outstanding service to international diplomacy.

President Granger in brief remarks, praised the Brazilian diplomat for his commitment to strengthening ties between Guyana and Brazil and his contributions to the international community over the years.

“It is testimony to a long successful career, particularly as he spend much of that time in this hemisphere…it is a testimony to the partnership that has been established between Brazil and Guyana over the years”, President Granger said.

He added that Guyana could always depend on Brazil’s friendship, adding that the award also signifies to Brazil, Guyana’s continued commitment to the peace of the hemisphere. Mr. Granger said Guyana will also continue to look to Brazil to ensure there is continued peace in the region.

Mr. Vieira made a one day visit to Guyana on Wednesday and held high level meetings with President David Granger and Foreign Minister, Carl Greenidge.

The Foreign Minister said the meetings covered cooperation in several areas including security and trade.

A Joint Communique has already been prepared following the meetings.

Guyana and Brazil have always shared good relations.
