Guyana to donate 300 tonnes of lumber to Hurricane ravaged islands

Just last week, the Private Sector donated over $16 million worth in food items and emergency supplies to the Civil Defence Commission for the affected islands. A medical team of doctors and nurses will also be dispatched to those islands battling health care concerns following the hurricanes. 

Guyana to donate 300 tonnes of lumber to Hurricane ravaged islands

Guyana is continuing its support of those hurricane ravaged islands and the Government has now announced that in addition to all of the assistance it has already committed to, it will be donating 300 tonnes to lumber to assist the islands in the rebuilding process.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo made the announcement over the weekend during the launching of Agriculture month.

Just last week, the Private Sector donated over $16 million worth in food items and emergency supplies to the Civil Defence Commission for the affected islands. A medical team of doctors and nurses will also be dispatched to those islands battling health care concerns following the hurricanes.

Guyana has also donated US$100,000 to the hurricane relief efforts and has committed to lending more assistance.

Hurricanes Irma and Maria, swept through the Caribbean weeks apart in September, leaving nothing but destruction behind.

At least 16 deaths are being blamed on the hurricanes and the Prime Minister of Dominica has been crying out for international help in his country’s efforts to rebuild.
