Guyanese man busted in Barbados with cocaine strapped to thighs

A 22-year-old Guyanese man who arrived in Barbados on Wednesday with over 5 pounds of cocaine strapped to his thighs will spend the next three years in jail in the island after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges.

The young man has been identified as Alistair Caldie Reid. He appeared at the District B Magistrate Court in Barbados on Thursday and entered a guilty plea. He was fined BDS$150,000 and after he was unable to pay the fine immediately he was sentenced to three years in jail.

According to a police report out of Barbados, after arriving in the island on Wednesday afternoon, Reid was pulled aside for a customs inspection and it was then that the agents found the cocaine strapped to his inner thighs. He was immediately arrested and charged.

Information about the bust has been passed on to the Guyanese authorities for any probe on this side.
