Man with Guyana links gunned down in Brooklyn

A man who is the son of Guyanese parents and who  lives in Brooklyn, New York was gunned down early on Monday morning while leaving the Tracks Night Club and Lounge on Ralph Avenue in Canarsie, Brooklyn.

The dead man has been identified as 31-year-old Dustin Yates who was shot multiple times to his upper body just outside the club. A 26-year-old young woman who was nearby was also shot but survived her injuries. She remains in a critical condition.

“Although we believe the incident began inside the club, the two victims, at least at this juncture, do not know each other,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly this morning according to the New York Post.

New York Police investigators believe Yates may have been gunned down by someone he had a confrontation with earlier in the night at the same Brooklyn hang out spot. There are reports that there was a heated argument in the club earlier the same night involving Yates and someone else and Yates was escorted out of the club.

According to the NYPD, the incident took place around 2:15 am on Monday. Over 14 shell casings were found at the scene of the crime. The man died after he was rushed to the King’s County Hospital. The woman is recovering at another Brooklyn area hospital.
